Sustainable corporate development is an ongoing process for us, which we drive forward with passion and commitment. Optimized manufacturing processes and the use of renewable energies help us to minimize our ecological footprint while ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality in our products and production.

Stronger Together

Our commitment to fair working conditions along the supply chain

Own production in Sri Lanka

Social responsibility is a core component of our corporate philosophy. Production is carried out by our own employees in our own production company "Paradise Toys Pvt. Ltd." in Sri Lanka. There, we guarantee fair working conditions in the manufacturing of our toys and continuously improve the local working environment.

For over 40 years, we have remained loyal to Sri Lanka. Even during the long civil war and the COVID pandemic, we have maintained and gradually expanded our own production in Sri Lanka.

We are involved in the local community and support, for example, a nearby primary school attended by many children of our employees. By setting up and maintaining a computer room, we enable students to access information technologies and thus improve their educational opportunities.

GOTS Certification: Our commitment to ecological and responsible production

Paradise Toys Pvt. Ltd. is audited and certified according to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This certification considers both social and ecological criteria along the entire supply chain and demonstrates our commitment to sustainable production and fair working conditions.

The GOTS standard is a globally leading standard for sustainable textile production, setting strict requirements to guarantee the use of organically grown natural fibers and to avoid the use of harmful chemicals. It also promotes fair working conditions and environmental protection through sustainable production methods.

The central tenets of the GOTS standard include:

  • Organic raw materials: At least 70% of fibers must come from organic farming; for "organic" products, this must be at least 95%.
  • Strict chemical regulation: The use of chemicals is heavily restricted to protect both the environment and the health of workers and end consumers.
  • Fair working conditions: GOTS only certifies companies that pay fair wages, provide safe workplaces, and do not permit child labor.
  • Transparency and traceability: The entire production process is monitored by independent audits and is fully documented.

Industry experts confirm that GOTS is one of the most important certifications for ecological and social standards along the entire supply chain. Our certification guarantees that we act sustainably and ethically.

Amfori BSCI: Our benchmark for social standards and sustainable action

Amfori BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) is an internationally recognized standard for promoting better working conditions in global supply chains. It covers various social criteria such as employee safety and health, fair wages, safe working conditions, the prohibition of child and forced labor, and the recognition of freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining.

Fehn is committed to improving social standards along the supply chain and is therefore a member of the Amfori organization. Our production facilities at Paradise Toys are audited annually by Amfori BSCI and have been rated with the highest grade A, which is rarely awarded.

This underscores our successful commitment to ethical principles in manufacturing and the continuous improvement of working conditions.

ISO 14001 Certification: Environmental Management at the Highest Level

Our production facility Paradise Toys Pvt. Ltd. is ISO 14001 certified. Our comprehensive environmental management system enables us to effectively and reliably implement environmental protection in our operations, minimize the environmental impact of our production, and efficiently use resources. Through ISO 14001, we work on continuously improving our ecological footprint. The requirements of ISO 14001 significantly exceed the environmental scope of GOTS.

By fulfilling the GOTS standard, the Amfori BSCI audit, and the ISO 14001 certification, Fehn and Paradise Toys meet the highest requirements regarding ecological production, social responsibility, and due diligence.

Operational processes on a green course

Sustainability in action: We rely on solar power and CO2 savings

Production in Sri Lanka

A significant step towards sustainability is the expansion of our photovoltaic systems in our production facilities in Sri Lanka and at our headquarters in Rödental.

Since 2017, we have continuously invested in the expansion of renewable energies at our production sites in Sri Lanka. We more than doubled the installed solar capacity from 382 kWp to 772 kWp between January 2023 and January 2024. As a result, in 2023, we were already able to cover 26% of our on-site electricity demand regeneratively through our own photovoltaic systems.

In addition to the photovoltaic system, we also operate biogas plants in our production facilities, the gas from which we use for cooking in our canteens. This saves us approximately 800 kg of fossil propane gas per year.

In 2023 alone, we doubled our installed solar capacity, and thus our photovoltaic system – from 382 kWp to a remarkable 772 kWp.

The expansion of our solar plants clearly demonstrates our determined commitment to environmental responsibility. We are proud of what we have already achieved and continue to set ambitious goals: in the coming years, we aim to cover 40% of our electricity consumption from our own solar plants.

Headquarters in Rödental

At our headquarters in Rödental, we already source 100% of our electricity from renewable energy. 35% of this comes from our own photovoltaic system. The remaining 65% is supplied as green electricity by the local municipal utilities of Rödental.

Since the commissioning of our photovoltaic system in Rödental in October 2019 until May 2024, we have generated a total of approximately 130 MWh of electricity. This corresponds to a saving of around 50,000 kg of CO2 emissions – which is equivalent to planting about 1,500 trees.

Since the end of 2022, heating has been exclusively done with climate-neutral eco-gas from the neighboring municipal utility of Neustadt.

By optimizing our processes, logistics, and packaging, we have been able to reduce our waste in Rödental by 40% since 2020. We are constantly looking for new ways to improve our environmental balance.

Durability. Repairability. Recyclability.

For a world where children can play safely - today and tomorrow

A fundamental goal of our company is the production of high-quality baby products. Durability is therefore not just a buzzword for us, but a promise that is reflected throughout the entire development and manufacturing process. Our products are made with the utmost care and from the best materials to ensure a long lifespan. We firmly believe that durable products not only satisfy customers but also reduce the burden on the environment.

We attach great importance to the repairability of our products. We want our customers to be able to use their favorite products for a long time. That's why we offer simple and accessible repair options through our repair service.

For minor defects, we always provide spare parts such as new musical movements, clamps, or rings. Smaller repairs, such as a torn ear or an opened seam, can be carried out quickly and easily to restore the products. Thanks to our own manufacturing, we are also able to carry out more complex repairs and alterations. If, for example, the original fabric is no longer available, we find solutions to use substitute fabrics.

For repair inquiries, our customers can simply contact our customer service by email: service@fehn.de.
We can and want to help. Because through these measures, we not only reduce waste but also promote a culture of appreciation and sustainability.

The separatability of our products plays an important role. Fehn products can be taken apart, disassembled into their individual components, and recycled. The idea of separatability is already incorporated into the design process.

We exclusively use FSC-certified papers for our product packaging and ensure that the recycling rate is as high as possible. We also print our product catalog on FSC-certified paper. For many of our transport and outer packaging, we already achieve a recycling content of 100%. The FSC label on the product packaging guarantees that the material used comes from responsibly managed forests and is produced according to strict ecological and social standards. By choosing FSC-certified packaging, we contribute to the protection of forests and the communities living in them.

Sustainability guides our actions. We produce durable, repairable, and recyclable products and continuously optimize our operational procedures and manufacturing processes. In doing so, we contribute to creating toys that children can play with safely – today and in the future.
